The Lakes Diary – Day 3

Day 3 – Skiddaw from Keswick via South Top, Skiddaw Little Man, Middle top, High Man

This one was not in the initial plan, but I’m so damn glad I changed my mind on it. I’ve heard about Skiddaw but I had never really read up on it, partly due to it being so far up North that I’ve avoided it due to travel time which turns out to be a bit daft…

After reading up on it the night before, Skiddaw towers over the north of the lakes and has views on a clear day of the north western fells including Scafell Pike to the right and then the Helvellyn range to the left with Blencathra behind. I couldn’t really resist it and the drive from here was only 45 minutes. So I committed and locked it in, the only decision I had to make was which route to take up this fine mountain.

The Lakes Diary – Day 2

Day 2 – Scafell Pike from Wasdale Head

I decided I couldn’t do a week in the Lakes without tackling the highest peak in England. I had conquered Scafell previously which happened to be in a very different climate. It was in November and as we climbed around half way it was covered in snow, at points in was knee deep. This was an incredible experience and something I would 100% do again, it was like being on a different planet, as you can see from the pictures below.

However today was a very different task, so much so that the previous outing had given me what I found to be a false knowledge of the task ahead. Having done it previously I just decided to take on the same route without any research as I knew the path.

The Lakes Diary – Day 1

After 15 long months without any holiday/annual leave, it was finally time for me to get away and switch off for a few days, something I find very hard to do, but I love doing and I do it best when I’m away from home. I normally like to visit different cities around Europe and of course my beloved Ibiza, but this time due to COVID (of course) it’s a little different. I booked 5 days in the Lake District staying at White Cross Bay in a lovely lodge with the hound, Nala. One of my other favourite pass times is hiking. It’s actually something I encourage all of my clients to get involved with too.

I wrote a blog on the benefits of hiking that you can read here.

I’ve also embarked on a big challenge next year in which I will be taking on a 7 day trek in Peru, South America on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. This will consist of 7 days of consecutive trekking of up to 6-10 hour each day – sounds a bit crazy right?

CAN YOU LOSE WEIGHT WITHOUT CARDIO?

I can’t help but think that most people only associate exercise with weight loss or burning calories. They think that the only reason or the main reason to exercise is to simply expend energy so that they can lose weight.

It’s why the cardio machines in the gym are so busy on a Monday night, everyone is trying to exercise their way to weight loss or un-do the weekend. I recently completed a photoshoot which consisted of 16 weeks of preparation which resulted in me getting into what I can only describe as, the shape of my life.

Weight Loss – How & When to Weigh Yourself

When people consider how to measure progress and set goals, the most common way of doing so is by simply weighing yourself. Now, the truth is, the scales in many ways get a bad rep because they are a fantastic measure of progress however we must be objective in the way we look at this

3 Big Reasons You Keep Failing On Your Diet & How To Fix Them

PORTION SIZES

SNACKING

LIQUID CALORIES

When dieting people often focus too much time on the small things that don’t matter and don’t move the needle. They also focus on a particular type of diet and seek confirmation that it’s the ‘best diet’ compared to others which to be honest the reasons are purely individual because it’s always the best option that works for you and your lifestyle.

Is Your Weekend Destroying Your Weight Loss Aspirations?

When your aim is weight loss you simply cannot ignore the weekend. Many people I’m sure can relate to the “I’ve been good Mon-Thurs” mentality. I mean it is pretty easy to stay on track with your nutrition whilst you are in routine and there are less distractions and desires to drink and consume a copious amount of junk food unlike at the weekend when temptation is at it’s highest.

I’m sure as you read this you will relate to what I’m about to say. You have what you deem a stressful job and by Friday (maybe even before Friday!) you are craving a beer/wine and a takeaway. Firstly I must make clear, there is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying either of these things, but stay with me. People don’t fail because they drink beer/wine and eat takeaways. People fail because they lose all control at weekend.

The Only Diet That Works…

I thought about titling this article – What’s a Diet? But then I figured that, the title doesn’t really insinuate that I’m giving you what you want – The answer of course…

However before I can tell you what I think is the only way to go about this, first we must breakdown what doesn’t work.

An important question to ask is…

If a particular ‘diet’ results in someone losing weight but then putting it back on, was it ever a ‘good diet’?
